Your immunosuppressive medication and COVID-19.

If you are taking immunosuppressive medication (methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclosporin, mycophenolate mofetil or cyclophosphamide) or biologics, for eczema, lichen planus or psoriasis,  and have no Corona virus infection, the medication may be continued with the normal monitoring that each drug requires.

If you develop Corona virus infection, the immunosuppressive must be stopped for the duration of the infection and until all symptoms resolve.

If you have not started an immunosuppressive but are being considered for one, it would be best to hold on and not start the new medication until the pandemic is over. If the immunosuppressive is considered essential, then your age and comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, coronary artery disease will need to be taken into account before prescribing such medication.

Adapted from the policy statement on biologics issued by the American Academy of Dermatology and by the National Eczema Association of the USA.

Roaccutane/ Oratane/Acnetane may by continued as normal. If any evidence is found to the contrary, this section will be updated.
